Podcast Episode | On HSPs Finding Belonging and a Sense of Home

It makes sense to me that those of us who are odd ducks would yearn to belong somewhere, somehow, and would often have trouble finding such a place.

With hindsight, I see how much my misfit discomfort prompted me to search far and wide for somewhere to relax. Where could I feel like myself? Often, that "place" was in my mind or inside studious quests for information as I followed my curiosity.

Frequently, the quest for belonging sparked a physical move from one location to another, even to different countries. I wanted what seemed to be a paradox: I wanted to explore and feel settled. Sometimes I only wanted to escape from a life in a location that no longer fit me. Other times, I heeded the call of a different location that beckoned with a potential better life.

Eventually, as I became more conscious of my motivations and as I accumulated lived experience, my paradigms about home and belonging shifted.

During a recent conversation with Gosia Poraj, the wonderful host of the podcast Cosmic Tickle, one of the topics we explored together was the intersection of highly sensitive people, home, and belonging.

I loved our conversation, Gosia's insights, and the questions posed. Despite my feelings of awkward vulnerability (and worry that my boy-cut hair would spontaneously drift into a style I've dubbed the Post-Modern Adolf), Gosia's compassion, welcoming presence, and willingness to dive into discussion felt like home.

If any of the above strikes a chord for you, you might enjoy watching or listening to our conversation.
